He may hit it with the Gen Z crowd on Teacotalk, but Macar’s mature songs about love, heartbreak, and relationships underpin his age. Here, the Next Up Artist of this month’s Apple Music explains what age means when it comes to making art.

Tate McRae is not new to the spotlight. At just 12 years old, the Calgary native was a finalist in the TV dance competition, so you Think You Can Dance. Music aficado, McRae took his singing talents to YouTube shortly after, sharing original songs and covers that quickly gained popularity on the platform. Four years later, she appeared The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon The video for which Macrae filmed with her iPhone was taped in front of her car during the epidemic while singing her track “You Broke Me First” last month.

A self-proclaimed old soul, Macar’s mature songs about love, heartbreak and relationships underpin her age. Just because he is young does not mean he has nothing important to say. She lives with her Gen Z counterparts by continuously releasing videos for her 5 million and counting followers on her YouTube channel and TikTok account, and playing her cool-colored piece of money (no part here). Maintains the status of the girl. Now, he can count himself as Apple Music’s Next Up Artist as this month’s roster of talented creatives such as Billy Illish, Daniel Caesar, Megan The Stallion, and Jessie Reyes.

“I’m not as good as you think I am,” McRoy tells me with a serious laugh, looking away from his screen when we meet Zoom as if very strange of someone calling him. Hide from emotion Here, the “All Things That Never Said” singer talks about where she finds her inspiration during an epidemic, dealing with loneliness and age is of no use when it comes to making music.

You filmed the video for your hit “You Broke Me First” on your iPhone. How was that?

This is perfect; This was our lowest budget video. Like, five bucks? It all happened in a moment’s haste. We [just returned] The house broke down after the epidemic. Me and my friend went to the terrace [and we] tape [my phone] In front of my car. We were there for maybe 10 minutes. I just started walking, playing songs out of the car windows while they were driving backwards. It was good compared to our way of thinking.

Does it work. People really like a stripped-down music video.

It is super real. You can really react to my song on my face.

You recently performed on Jimmy Fallon. You must have been a career highlight by now.

I love her When he and his team arrived, I froze outside. And it was also super cool because I got to perform with my favorite people, Tristan and Finale, my best friends since I was really young in the dance world.

It feels like a full-circle for you and your friends. Does it feel like work for you too?

Me and my dance friends are doing some good work during the epidemic, and we are able to meet again after three years. It’s fun – I call it work, but that’s not it at all. If I wasn’t working right now, I would probably do the same thing.

Do you ever get scared on stage?

The interesting thing is that I don’t bother for big things. I don’t know why this happens, but I feel like, I get so upset when I go to school to do a presentation or fill my gas, but if I’m going to go about Jimmy Fallon, I’m stress free. this is so weird. My parents always make fun of me. I will become a wreck for the simplest things in life, and will not be affected by just the cold things.

What is it like working and making art during COVID-19?

It is definitely interesting. I am not a fan of zoom sessions, but they have to be done every day. You have to adapt because you can’t hear anyone, ever. It is always messed up, from inside and inside. You just have to go with it, because it is a difficult process. I’m taking my writing team back – it’s easier than having a million different people on one call.

Have you had to look in different places for inspiration writing, given all the isolation this year?

Usually I would be with my friends and I would watch everything, and capture the emotions to write my songs. But now I can’t see any of my friends, and I have nothing to grab. I’m trying to push where I get inspiration from – photos, quotes, things I see online. And that feeling literally means being in your home and analyzing every part of yourself. This is what I write.

Being alone with yourself and your thoughts can sometimes be a difficult place to be.

There are definitely new feelings that I didn’t have before I got stuck [my] House. There is a lot of inspiration that has been taken away. Without conversation, i guess [I] Don’t know what to write sometimes. This is the worst feeling ever.

You write about a lot of serious things about which some people can say that you are very young.

This is probably one of my least favorite things anyone can do, judge me based on my age. A 17-year-old and a 30-year-old both have their own lives. No matter how much time has passed, it does not mean that you do not have the same relevance. I think I am an old soul; People always tell me that I’m a 50-year-old man [my body]. Everyone’s mind works differently. I am the Super Observant. I’ve written songs that sound like people to me [older than me] related to. Which says a lot about what I have to say. You cannot put age on a writer or an artist.

What is it like to balance your friendships and career, especially during an epidemic?

I felt that I was holding onto it. I have very good friends and I see people I work with, and then the epidemic broke out and I liked, ‘I’m single.’ I have a close group of girlfriends that I saw in early summer, and now none at all. I am a beautiful social person, and my energy is greatly affected by this.

You are going on tour soon, if all goes according to plan. Is there anyone you’d like to collaborate with?

I always say that The Weeknd and Post Malone are two huge dream collaborations. Ariana Grande would be cool.

Following in the footsteps of so many incredible artists, what does it feel like to be the next artist in Apple Music this month?

This is one of the best things I have done. I’m really thinking about working with Apple. I mean, it’s Apple. It’s an honor, and it’s good just to be able to advance my creativity and create more content. He also has the resources to be able to make some cool documentaries and videos.

You are on TikTok all the time. Are there any trends you’re loving right now?

I love dance challenges and where they look like crazy makeup [people] Re-create their entire face.
