Suvie Kitchen Robot: Wi-Fi countertop oven refrigerates, cooks food

Suvi will be available for preorder in early February via Kickstarter.

A new startup wants you to clean your countertop for a Wi-Fi-enabled appliance that is part refrigerator, part cooker. Suvi Kitchen Robot uses water to cool your food and cook entire meals. Suvi’s makers will launch a Kickstarter campaign on February 6 to take precedence for the countertop oven, which starts at $ 429.

We have seen an increasing number of small, smart countertop ovens. The June Intelligent Oven and Towala Smart Oven use a combination of Internet connectivity and automated cooking to solve the problem of what’s for dinner. But Suvi’s ability to cool your food is new to this growing equipment category. Because your food will be at a safe temperature until it is cooked, you can put it in a suave in the morning, and all you have to do when you get home is to put your food on a plate and have a broiler of suvi. Sweet The sous vide machine also has a refrigeration facility, but is limited to foods that you can prepare in a water bath.

“The real benefit of mobile controlled devices is only when they can move from storage to cooking,” said Robin Liss, Suvi’s CEO and co-founder. (Lis is also the founder and former CEO of consumer electronics review site

The protein cooks for a method called sous vide at the top right of the suave. Vegetables are cooked in the top left box.

Here’s how the suave works: The suave countertop is designed for meals that contain protein, starch, vegetables, and sauces. Inside the cooker, there is a compartment for each food group. The top two cans for your protein and vegetable are surrounded by a metal jacket that holds water. You place your food in the appropriate containers at the beginning of the day, and fill the reservoir of the suave. You set the time when you want your food to be ready on the device’s touchscreen or its app. Water from the reservoir is transferred to the jacket and cools it, which refrigerates the food.

When it is time for the suave to cook your food, the water in the jacket heats up and begins to multitask. Water cooks protein and vegetables on top using suvi sous vide And then steam, respectively, it fills the starch compartment to see what you have there. (This will also end when your starch is finished cooking.) The sauce heats up while cooking the rest. When your meal is ready, you will get an alert, after which you will bake your protein and give a brown finish to the souvy and take your food in a plate.

Suvi’s refrigeration is possible due to the built-in compressor, the same device you would find in a full-size refrigerator.

Suvi will sell meal kits that contain a protein, vegetable, starch and sauce that you cook in a souvy.

Souvi will have an alternative meal plan in which the company will give you pre-cooked, un-cooked food that will feed three to five people (the company has not released information on how much the meal will cost). Each Siew Smart meal will have a near-field communication (NFC) tag, and the equipment will read that information and adjust specific cook settings for the various elements of that meal. We have seen more small appliance companies take a similar route and offer meal plans with their products: Towla Provides packaged food with a QR code that the oven scans to cook your food, and Namiku A similar scan-to-cook function is sous vide consonant in circulating immersion.

“It becomes a really seamless experience when you use our food because it’s already prepaid and then cooked in a recyclable tray that you can recycle or dispose of,” Liss said. “So by having a meal kit, we really bring the complete solution. You don’t have to worry about shopping, you don’t have to worry about planning, you don’t have to worry about prepping Is, and cleaning is super easy. “

But you can use suave with your own foods, and the app will have cooking time recommendations for common items.

“We want it to be a platform for creativity and convenience, but also innovation, and we want companies to pack food for large and small suvis,” Liss said.

People can have a difficult time convincing them to sacrifice valuable counter space for a suave appliance, similar in size to a long microwave. Suvi is not meant to replace your go-to small appliances – it wants to provide busy people with another way to cook food. This means that you still have to hang on your toaster, microwave, and most appliances you like. But Suuvi’s refrigeration could have set the stage for other countertop equipment to help them cool their products.
