Erso’s father, Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen) was a “leading galactic authority on crystallography and energy enrichment,” according to his Wookieepedia entry. Erso was part of the Republic Futures Program, where he reluctantly helped to develop the DS-1 Death Star plans.

In the Star Wars timeline, Rogue One falls just before the Battle of Yavin in the original Star Wars movie, Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977), in which fans first met Star Wars icons like Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Princess Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher), and Han Solo (Harrison Ford).
Recently, Jones spoke out about her time on set — she has previously teased a possible return to the Star Wars franchise — and shared which somewhat surprising item she took home with her!
“I kept my boots from Rogue One,” Jones shared with Total Film, via a Digital Spy article.
“I had these heavy army boots they attached velcro straps to, to make them more Star Wars. When I was in the gym I’d be running in the boots because I knew I had to do all these running sequences in them, and I didn’t want to be sprawling all over the place. So I became very attached to that pair of boots and I was given them. I did wear them a few times after, I just took the velcro off. No one knew they had been through a galaxy.”

Rogue One‘s role in the Star Wars story isn’t done yet, with prequel series Andor set to debut on the Disney+ streaming platform sometime in 2022. The series will see Luna reprise his role as rakish Rebel spy Cassian Andor, but is unlikely to feature other characters from Rogue One, as it takes place about five years before the film.
Andor is currently filming and recent set photos show Luna as a nearly unrecognizable version of the fan-favorite space captain.
