The story of famed Scottish hairstylist Sam McKnight is behind the famous storyline, as well as working with Emma Corinne who played Lady Di in ‘The Crown’.
Princess Diana gave us many iconic looks, but perhaps none more permanent than the trademarked short hairstyle during the final years of her life. It turns out, the signature look was the result of an impulsive haircut.
In a new video for british the trend, Renowned Scottish hairstylist Sam McKnight, opened up about his relationship with the late royal and how the iconic look came about. The pair first met on a shoot for the British the trend, During which he had a “very lovely day”. While playing with her hair, McKnight remembers it looking small under that worn star. He says, “I threw it a little bit.”
But Princess Diana surprised McKnight – who has also worked with the likes of Lady Gaga and Kate Moss – at the end of the shoot when she asked her what she would do with her hair if she could do anything.
“I said, ‘I’ll cut it completely and just start again,” McKnight explains. “It was the early 90s and it was at a time when I was doing a lot of shows and covers and a lot of girls had short hair. We were moving from the early ’80s to the faster, more powerful, business-chic of the 90s.
Princess Diana’s answer? According to McKnight: “He said, ‘Well, why don’t you just cut it?’ So I cut it and then we never looked back. “
McKnight also recounts some of her other favorite memories while working with Princess Diana, including one the trend The cover she was particularly proud of showed off her nails, which she had recently bitten, and the moment she met her mother near her Scottish village.
“A friend of mine’s friend shouted, ‘This is Sam’s mother,” he says. “And for some reason the princess knew what she was talking about and she went and talked to him and she made my mother’s day. I think that was probably the most pride for me that I have felt in my job. “
At another point in the video, McKnight also talks about working on another the trend Cover with Emma Corinne, who of course, played the role of Princess Diana in the most recent season Crown.
“From one princess Diana to another,” she says with a chuckle, remembering that the shoot was actually her first job after the UK’s first lockdown ended. “I remember when I got into the job I wasn’t sure I was the right person to do it … it felt weird.”
But, apparently, he got beyond that feeling and went to shoot with Corinne. “Actually it was a pleasure, and Emma was a joy,” McKnight explains. “I looked quite similar to how Emma was taking Princess Diana into her look. And she was such a sweet girl that there was any kind of doubt and fear.”
Corinne is not the only actor to portray Pyare Shahi on screen recently. theory Star Elizabeth Debki is set to take up the role in the next season Crown (Although we haven’t really gotten a look into her action yet), while Kristen Stewart is currently filming an upcoming biopic The wig. We’ve got a pair of Stewart sneak peaks in the film – which allegedly takes place over a weekend in December 1991, when Princess Diana is in Sandringham with the rest of the royal family for Christmas and Prince Charles Decides to leave his marriage – in which he looks famous Bob and Fearfully Similar to the late royal.
