A Veteran Cast & Skilled Direction Lift Midrange Actioner

A seasoned Hollywood cast and skilful direction take the plot of an intricate B-movie to a higher level. The Protégé puts a cruel orphan girl under the protection of a vicious killer. He becomes father, friend and mentor. Which teaches him to gamble like a chasing tiger. The film is full of punitive action sequences but succumbs to silliness from time to time with nonsensical flirtations and wild plot twists.

protease 1991 Opens in Da Nang, Vietnam. An elite hit man, Moody (Samuel L Jackson), finds a bloodied ex-girl (Eva Nguyen Thorsson) in dangerous circumstances. He admires the child’s toughness and decides to take her under his wing. Three decades later, Anna (Maggie Q) has become a sophisticated London man. She is the owner of a high-end rare bookstore. Selling old Edgar Allan Poe by day, then ruthlessly collecting million dollar bounties at night. Anna and Moody specialize in finding people who want to disappear into the shadows.

Moody’s birthday celebration at the luxurious English manor goes off without a hitch. The next day, a mysterious visitor (Michael Keaton) goes to Anna’s bookstore and causes a chain reaction of massacre. One of Moody’s past misdeeds has come back to haunt him. But he has a fierce guard in his corner. Anna goes back to Vietnam to target and expose the powerful puppet master. She finds a country very different from her youth, but still ruled by brash politicians and gangsters. Anna must face the traumatic events of her childhood. Then rain vengeance on those who have wronged him.

Director Martin Campbell knows how to make a good action flick. He’s done everything from Bond (golden eye, casino Royale) to Jackie Chan (Foreigner) protease To make it true. The pacing of the film is good with well choreographed fights and gunplay. His all-star ensemble plays his characters deftly. Samuel L. Jackson drops a trademark “motherf***er” but reigns in brutality for a more reserved performance. Maggie Q Under the guidance of Campbell is a capable action star. She is much younger than the bad guys she easily whispers. protease Sends death quickly without theatrics.

Several issues persist throughout the film. There is a lot of unnecessary monologue and unrealistic jokes. Maggie Q and Michael Keaton flirt while fighting. There is zero sexual tension between them, so these scenes turn out to be comical. protease The plot suffering from left field also shows that it doesn’t make sense. These characters are believed to be of the top tier of trained assassins. Yet they constantly let enemies get away and make decisions that put their own lives at risk. It also doesn’t help that the actual villain is ridiculously dangerous.

protease Have some good qualities, but don’t make enough use of them. There are some unexpected moments for shock value. They don’t pay in a way that really sets the story apart. We have seen the story of a female killer countless times before. protease Ends up being another drop in the bucket. It’s a midrange action that should be enough for fans of the genre. protease Produced by Millennium Media, Arthur Sarkissian Productions, and Campbell Grobman Films.
